Bonuses and obstacles

Discover the types of power-ups and obstacles, which you can encounter in high levels of many match-3 games.

Bonuses

Bomb

The bomb destroys all surrounding jewels when you match it. It is the most common of all bonus jewels, because you usually get it for matching 4 jewels in a row. In Candy Crush Saga however, you get the bomb for doing a T-shaped match.

Flash

When you match a flash, then all the jewels in one column will get destroyed. There are usually two types of flashes: The vertical flash, which is on the images above, and the horizontal flash, which destroys rows instead of columns.

In some games you can get a flash by matching four jewels, while in others you just have to wait for the flash to fall down.

Color Bomb

Use the color bombs to destroy all existing jewels of one color. The color bomb is compatible with jewels of all colors, just swipe it over any of it's neighbor jewels.

To create the color bomb, you need to make a match of five jewels in almost all games, including Match 3 Jewels and Candy Crush Saga. This is a very powerful bonus, so it is usually smart to keep it until the end of the level and not to blow it up right away.

Obstacles

Tiles

Underneath the jewels, there are often tiles, which need to get removed in order to complete the level. In Match 3 Jewels, you even have 3 colors of the tiles, which differ in strength. These tiles are called Jelly in Candy Crush Saga

Walls

The first obstacle, which comes to your way is the wall (called "frosting" in Candy Crush). It is not a classical jewel or candy, because it doesn't fall down. It stands in one place, so that the jewels can't fall through. You need to destroy the wall by making a match next to it.

Padlocks

Some jewels or candies are locked on one place by a padlock or the marmelade in Candy Crush. You can't move these jewels, but you need to match them first in order to unlock them.
